Ebook designers will battle it out at ebookcraft 2017

Toronto, ON – Oct. 26, 2016 – The winner will go home with $2,500 from Rakuten Kobo

Design and programming skills will be put to the test at ebookcraft 2017 for the second year in a row, as ebook production professionals get ready to compete in So You Think You Can Code (SYTYCC) 2017. With a cash prize of $2,500 courtesy of Rakuten Kobo and some hefty bragging rights at stake, individuals and teams of two will be rolling up their sleeves to apply ebook design best practices to a rough-around-the-edges EPUB file in the month leading up to ebookcraft 2017, which will take place in downtown Toronto from March 22-23.

"So You Think You Can Code is a rare opportunity for ebook developers stuck in the trenches to show off the possibilities of design in an underrated design space, as well as to flash their next-level coding and design skills," says Laura Brady, SYTYCC coordinator, ebookcraft committee member, and principal at Brady Type.

In 2016, Rebecca Springer took home the grand prize after her entry was tested across multiple e-reading devices by judges Joshua Tallent (Firebrand Technologies), Monique Mongeon (Penguin Random House Canada), and India Amos for criteria including accessibility, typography, rich navigation, and creative design, among others.

More information on the competition can be found at http://bit.do/SYTYCC. Competitors can sign up until Feb. 19, 2017.

ebookcraft is a two-day conference for the ebook production community, featuring in-depth demonstrations and insightful talks from the industry’s leading experts. The main conference day will take place on Thursday, March 23, with an optional workshop day for the #eprdctn crowd on Wednesday, March 22. Super-early-bird registration will be open until Oct. 31, 2016.
