Hello, everyone!
My name is Adaobi (Ah-doe-bee) and I'm the new Marketing and Research Associate. I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and moved to Canada when I was 16 for university. I studied Professional Writing and Communications at the University of Toronto and I did my publishing program at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University). I knew I wanted to work with books or around books in some capacity since my second year of university. Over the years my focus has changed from wanting to be an editor, to being comfortable with the Marketing and Communications side of things, to surprisingly working on and developing a passion for accessible digital publishing. And now I've found a job that mixes my passion for Marketing and books together. I'm excited to learn more and grow as I go through this often surprising and unpredictable journey.
When I’m not hard at work, I'm reading and writing. I've recently been enjoying graphic novels and just finished reading Meat and Bone by Kat Verhoeven. It was so good, I read it all in one night. There are two books that changed my life that I would recommend to everyone: Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and Body Positive Power by Megan Crabbe. The Uglies series is actually the first book to get me interested in reading sci-fi & fantasy and it was the book that inspired me to start writing myself. So, it should come as no surprise that I am a sci-fi & fantasy writer. Worldbuilding, escapism, researching legends, myths, and folklore are all the things that make sci-fi & fantasy so appealing to me.
Outside of the book world, I enjoy all forms of animation, especially anime. So I'm usually either watching an anime or a cartoon from my childhood. I'm currently going through all the Studio Ghibli films and rating them. I'm also trying to remind myself how to play the ukulele after a long break and trying to get back into swimming after I stopped swimming competitively in high school. Wish me luck. I hope you enjoyed reading this blurb about me and I look forward to working with you all!
