BookNet Canada and BISG jointly sponsored an EDItEUR presentation on the European Deforestation Regulation during the first week of September. A recording of this webinar is now available.
The webinar is about 40 minutes long and is actually a re-recording rather than the recording captured on the day (a text transcript is also available). It includes answers to a number of questions posed by attendees during the live webinar, some of which could not be answered at that time, and it also includes a correction to the qualification criteria for delayed implementation for small enterprises (a delay until June 2025). The original was wonderfully clear but the revision is even better. It’s definitely worth a second viewing if you attended the original presentation.
One of the key points of this webinar is that the EUDR does not apply only to organizations within the EU; IT AFFECTS ANYONE SELLING PHYSICAL PRODUCTS IN EUROPE and will affect most Canadian publishers selling physical books. We would recommend everyone watch this webinar because it clarifies why it likely applies to you and, more importantly, why your distributor or a retailer is asking you for information. You’ll need some understanding about this even if it doesn’t apply to you at present — you will likely need to supply similar information in the future as there are similar regulations upcoming.
The webinar also explains the additions to ONIX that help communicate compliance information along the supply chain.
It’s well worth a watch!
